Morgantown, WV -- West Virginia University's Faculty Senate demanded Monday that President Mike Garrison resign in the wake of a degree scandal involving the governor's daughter. The Faculty Senate passed a motion of no confidence in Garrison on a 77-19 vote, with one abstention. It demands that Garrison step down, or that the WVU Board of Governors require his resignation. But the senate's motion isn't binding on the administration, and Garrison has repeatedly said he won't resign. Two other measures recommending less severe responses to the scandal failed.Garrison says he still plans to implement recommendations made by an independent panel. The panel concluded April 23rd that WVU administrators and educators gave Mylan Incorporated executive Heather Bresch an executive master's of business administration degree she didn't earn.Garrison says all three motions considered today contain a clear message. He says WVU must create an environment that assures everyone an incident like Bresch's degree never happens again.
