KENNEDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Neighbors in Kennedy Township are shocked after police said a 5-year-old was sexually assaulted inside Jamie’s Day Care on Vigne Road earlier this week.

Because he is a juvenile, Channel 11 is not releasing the name of the 14-year-old suspect.

County police arrested the 5-foot-8-inch, 250-pound teenager on Thursday, charged him with rape, and took him to Shuman Detention Center.

The day care's owner, Jamie Walter, either wasn't at home or not answering the door when Channel 11 went there Friday afternoon.

According to the state Department of Public Welfare, Walter has been operating her 24-hour day care for 10 years.

Inspected twice, in 2006 inspectors cited Jamie’s Day Care for six violations, but none were related to abuse or violence.

Several state and local agencies, including local case workers at Children's Youth and Services of Allegheny County, are investigating the allegations.
