PITTSBURGH -- Two peregrine falcons that hatched last month at the Gulf Tower in downtown Pittsburgh were reunited with their parents Monday night. The chicks, one male and one female, were taken from their nest Monday morning. They were banded and examined by veterinarians, then returned to their nest.Bird experts said the peregrines are not only amazing to watch, they help serve a purpose as well.“Having them downtown in Pittsburgh is kind of a neat situation because it allows them to control some of the wild bird population, including pigeons," explained Erin Estell of the National Aviary. There are two peregrine nests in Pittsburgh; one at the Gulf Tower, and another at the Cathedral of Learning in Oakland.
