Washington County Farmers Startled By Black Bear

Residents of Avella, Pennsylvania witnessed an unusual sight on Tuesday. Imagine looking out of your window and seeing a black bear.

A family in Washington County caught the bear on camera and shared the pictures with channel 11 news.

Roy and Georgeann Miller spotted the 300-lb. black bear on their 200-acre farm in Avella.

At first, Georgeanne said she thought it was a dog.

When she told her husband, he grabbed his camera and snapped photos of the bear walking around their property and an adjacent insurance office.

Later, the bear wandered back into the woods.

Bears rarely attack people. The best way to keep them from your home is to keep them from finding anything to eat, like trash and pet food.
