Beaver Falls -- Michael Smith and his girlfriend admit Smith went on a burglary spree at three churches in Beaver Falls.

According to police Smith stole from the churches because the family of six fell on hard times, with four kids all under four.

Felicia Egri is standing by her man, she said the father of her children was just doing what he needed to do to keep food on the table, " I can't really apologize for him, I'm sure he knows that it was wrong and if he could he would say he was sorry too."

Church officials said if the family needed help they would have been there for them and that stealing is not the thing to do.

Egri's relatives are helping take care of the children.

Smith remains in jail on bond.
