SMITHTON, Pa. -- As the flood waters recede in the Midwest, local volunteers are doing their part to help.Monday night, the Smithton City Council approved a trip to Iowa so that city officials can gain a better understanding of what the flood victims will need.Mayor Robert Prah said, "We don't know what they need out there, I mean every different community needs different things and I can only imagine what it would be like if Smithton was under water and we were struggling to clean off streets or struggling to clean off the sides of buildings because of dirt."The mayor announced that several emergency workers will accompany him on the trip. Prah is recruiting professional rescuers in southwest Pennsylvania to join him in Smithton's effort.
