PITTSBURGH -- The cause of Wednesday afternoon's fire in Manchester is still under investigation, but neighbors believe they already know who and what is responsible.A second ladder truck had to be brought in to snuff the huge flames shooting from the roof of a home on Warlo Street, near Bidwell.Mary Ann Mason, who lives just behind the three abandoned rowhouses said, "It's very very scary, especially when its so close to your house."Her home filled with the thick black smoke that blanketed that part of Manchester.Mason is among nearly a dozen neighbors who shared their complaints of area kids using firecrackers over the last week. Most neighbors felt sure they know how the fire started, and are upset over the danger it causes.Reney Owens told Channel 11, "I don't think we have to worry about our kids doing that to a house where people are living, no. I think the temptation of doing it in an empty place where no one can see them might be a danger."Arson investigators are now handling the case.Firefighters on the scene say it is simply too early to conclude kids and fireworks are to blame.Battalion Chief Michael Marks, of the Pittsburgh Fire Department, said, "Yeah, it's under investigation due to the fact that it was boarded up, no one was living in it so its always a case where we call arson out to investigate."The abandoned rowhouses are now gutted, even more reason, neighbors say to get the dangerous structure torn down quickly.
