Saturday, July 5, 2008 – updated: 11:44 pm EDT July 5, 2008

The Allegheny County bomb squad responded to a potentially explosive situation Saturday night in Indiana Borough.

Emergency personnel in Indiana, Pa., have evacuated residents within a 900-foot radius of a home as a precaution after the discovery of explosives in a home.

The Indiana County Emergency Management Agency said the explosives were found at about 9:20 p.m. at the Philadelphia Street home.

The county hazmat team and police and firefighters went door to door to tell residents to leave.

Chief John Colananni of the Indiana Fire Association said the American Red Cross set up a temporary shelter at the West Station along Indian Springs Road in White Township.

Motorists were also being diverted from surrounding streets while crews waited for the bomb squad.
