PITTSBURGH -- PITTSBURGH -- When Pennsylvania state trooper Barton Lemansky was asked how he felt about high-speed car chases, he admitted that they can be quite scary.

“They are not pleasant,” Lemansky said. “It’s not fun. It’s not exciting. It’s frightening.”

On-Star may have a solution to Lemansky’s fear.

On-Star recently developed a technological device that allows On-Star to locate a vehicle and disengage the throttle if a customer reports the car stolen. On-Star calls it “The Slow Down System.”

Lemansky was able to test out the latest piece of technology from On-Star and was instantly satisfied with it.

“I wish every car had the ability to do this,” Lemansky said. “This will end a pursuit before it even gets started.”

Depending on the type of land, the car will either come to a complete stop or cruise at an idle speed, somewhere between three and four mph. The driver of the car will still have control of the brakes and steering, but will not be able to accelerate.

Only 2009 model cars will be able to have The Slow Down System and it cannot be added to old On-Star systems.
