Former Langley Basketball Star Shot, Killed

SHERADON, Pa. -- Police are still searching for the person who shot and killed a former Langley basketball star on Saturday.Robert Barnes, 20, was identified as the victim. Barnes was the city’s top scorer during the 2006-07 season, averaging 24.9 points per game.The shooting happened just after 1 p.m. at the Foot Mobile store on Hillsboro Street when Barnes and an unknown assailant began arguing shortly after Barnes entered the store.Police believe the suspect then pulled out a gun and shot Barnes through the right side of his torso before fleeing the scene.Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.“It’s a shame to see another young life disappear again,” said Jason Cupples, Barnes’ Langley basketball coach.Barnes had hoped to play college basketball and played in a local recreation league.He is survived by his 3-year-old son.Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Homicide Squad at 412-323-7161.
