GEORGES TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Emergency personnel returned Tuesday to part of Georges Township, Fayette County, to assess the extent of damage in Strickland Estates from a round of severe weather Monday night. On Tuesday, the National Weather Service said the storm was actually a microburst packing 60 mph winds. It tore through the area at about 9 p.m. on Monday.Residents said the winds sounded like a freight train and caused an unbelievable amount of damage.A number of mobile homes in Strickland Estates were ripped off foundations and roofs were blown away, authorities said. Remnants of sheds and parts of swing sets were scattered all over the area, too."It came through like a freight train," said Strickland manager Brent Ruble. "It was so hard it blew doors off the hinges and busted a couple of windows."A hazmat crew had to be called in because fuel was leaking from a damaged tank, Ruble said.In all, about 100 homes were damaged, and five were destroyed. Initially, only 30 homes were reported damaged. No injuries were reported.
