Animal control officers plan to file charges against two people in a dog attack that left an 8-year-old boy covered in bites.

Investigators said an American bulldog, not a pit bull as originally believed, mauled Rocco Doman Saturday.

The animal escaped a fenced yard in Wilkinsburg Saturday.

Doman received more than 200 stitches and staples from his head to his toes and will require plastic surgery.

Investigators plan to charge both the man caring for the dog and the dog's original owner. The charges include harboring a dangerous animal and failure to control the dog. They also said the dog was not licensed and is not up to date on its rabies vaccination.

The dog is quarantined at Triangle Pet Services in McKees Rocks.

The Doman family hired an attorney and said it will fight to have the dog put down.
