Wild Turkey Attacks Highland Park Jogger

A jogger in Highland Park said she got quite a scare last week when a wild turkey swooped in on her.

Rachel McCurdy said she saw a baby turkey across the street from where she was jogging, but was careful in case the mother was around.

An adult turkey was in fact nearby and began attacking McCurdy, who used her hat to fight back.

“The hat started to fall, and I grabbed it as it was falling, and I swung around,” she said. “That's when I saw him for the first time. I kind of swatted at him and started running across the street. I thought I was safe, and I turned around, and he was right behind me."

McCurdy said the turkey chased her at least 20 feet before backing off.

Zoo officials with the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium said the turkey could have been a male looking for a mate.

McCurdy wasn’t injured in the attack.
