Suspected Condom Thief Nailed By Police

A 20-year-old man was arrested Friday night after he allegedly stole condoms from a Kwik Fill in California, Pa.

Deosce Dashawn, of West Mifflin, is charged with aggravated assault and retail theft, among other charges, after police said he bit a security guard who tried to apprehend him during the alleged shoplifting attempt.

Security Officer David Gasparovich was on duty at this Kwik Fill store in the California business district when he saw a man take something at the front of the store and put it in his pocket.

“I witnessed him keep reaching his arm,” said Gasparovich. “It seemed something was wrong.”

Gasparovich followed the man outside, and there was a confrontation that led to a scuffle.

“I was able to pull his shirt over his head,” he said. “By then he had my arm in his mouth and he was biting my right forearm.”

When police showed up to the Kwik Fill, which is located on Third and Wood streets, the guard's bite mark had clearly broken the skin.

Dashawn was arraigned and placed in Washington County Jail on $10,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 20.
