Bill Legalizing Video Poker Machines In Pa. To Be Proposed

Pennsylvania legislators will consider a bill to legalize video poker machines during their next session.

State Rep. Dan Frankel said making video poker machines legal is a new source of revenue that could bring in at least $10 million a year for the county.

Frankel said it could offset the drink tax at local bars, taverns and restaurants.

Traditionally, Pennsylvania legislators have been divided on gaming, and there would be opposition to an expansion to gaming in the state. Casinos could also object, seeing the move to allow video poker machines at local businesses as competition.

However, some bar and restaurant owners and patrons are eager to see the bill passed.

Angelo Posteraro, owner of Graziano’s Pizza in Lawrenceville, said, “It's taking place no matter what anybody does. It's going to happen, and we ought to make it legal."

“Why not help these guys out…and have the city and the county realize some revenue from it,” said Derrick Jones, of Lawrenceville.
