Posted: 2:51 pm EST November 3, 2008Updated: 3:08 pm EST November 3, 2008

A federal grant could put a proposed Maglev train system in Pittsburgh back on track.

Maglev train systems operate trains that are levitated and propelled by electromagnetic forces.

According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, the Federal Railroad Administration has $45 million to give to one or more of three eligible Maglev projects.

Pittsburgh’s Maglev would run from the airport, to downtown, to Monroeville and Greensburg.

Pittsburgh will be competing with a project in Atlanta and one that plans to connect Baltimore to Washington, D.C.
