PITTSBURGH -- The restrooms inside Hamburg and Smith Halls on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University in Oakland were closed Thursday night after a water main break, but classes were still held.Students and faculty had to leave the building to use restrooms after a 6-inch line broke shortly after 4:30 p.m. Thursday along Forbes Avenue."That is a little frustrating when you're talking about a bathroom break in your class, because these classes are three hours long," said student Josephine Chuang. As of Friday morning, university officials said the line had been fixed and water restored the affected buildings.Thursday's break sent water gushing out from underneath the sidewalk, raising it by as much 7 inches.Students tried to walk through the watery mess while traffic came to a standstill just as rush hour was just beginning.Police had to shut down Forbes Avenue between Craig Street and Morewood Avenue while crews worked to cap the line.
