A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is investigating a series of fires in Lawrence County.

The New Castle Fire Chief said there were five house fires within 30 minutes reported Friday and one reported on Sunday.

Investigators told Channel 11 News each of the houses was vacant, and some were in the process of being remodeled.

The fires happened on Chestnut, Mulberry, Court and Ray streets.

One of the structures had been set on a fire a previous time on Aug. 12, the NCFD said.

"Flames were coming out everywhere," said witness Philip Bordonaro. "Flames were coming out all of the windows. It was full of smoke. There were flames everywhere."

"As the men were leaving, they could see the glow in the sky of the first fire," said New Castle Fire Chief Tom Marchirello.

There were no injuries reported. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
