18-year-old dies after shooting near Sto-Rox High School

MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. — An 18-year-old has died from injuries he suffered in a shooting that also injured a 7-year-old girl on Friday.

The victim, Jabree Hines, of Pittsburgh, was shot near Sto-Rox High School, Stowe Township police said.  A 7-year-old girl in a passing vehicle was also wounded.

Allegheny County police said the shooting happened just before 6 p.m. at the corner of Valley Street and Russellwood Avenue.

The Stowe Township police chief told Channel 11 News that Hines was found shot in the head, upper arms and chest area. He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital in grave condition and died early Saturday morning.

“She seen him with his head in the sidewalk and his body in the street. I've never witnessed that, but I wouldn't want to,” said Carol Blank about her neighbor who she said tried to help Hines.

Police said while Hines was being “shot at numerous times,” a car driven by the 7-year-old’s mother was passing by, with the girl in the passenger seat. The car was randomly hit by gunfire and the girl was shot in the thigh.

The girl’s mother drove to the police station, beat on the door, and said her daughter was shot. Police helped the girl and she was taken to the hospital. Officials are calling the girl strong as she recovers at Children’s Hospital, and said she never once shed a tear.

Stowe Township police said more than 20 shell casings were found at the scene.

Police hope surveillance video will lead to an arrest. Several men were spotted running away on foot, and police said there was a white four-door sedan involved in the incident.

Allegheny County Homicide detectives are investigating. As of Saturday morning, no arrests had been made.

Police returned to the scene Monday to question potential witnesses and review surveillance video from the school.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
