PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh zoning board recommended against a proposed strip club planned to be built along West Carson Street in the West End.Residents went before the board last week and cited traffic, safety and a potential for increased alcohol and drug use in the area as reasons why they didn't want the club."We're trying to bring development into the area and weed out crime and seed in development and this is certainly not the kind of development that we want to seed into our communities," said West End resident Norene Beatty. The clubs owner, Patrick Risha, saidthe concerns are unwarranted."I think this planning commission's negative recommendation is premature and they didn't fully understand the code and we look forward to going before city council and if they reject us there then we'll sue," said Risha. In the end, the executive director a drug and alcohol recovery center next door felt vindicated by the vote. "I think a lot of lives are going to be saved in the long run by this. I'm just very happy right in this point in time," said Joe Panzino. The proposal still has to go up for a vote by Pittsburgh City Council.
