Man Whose Arrest Led To FBI Agent's Death Gets Trial

Posted: 8:13 am EST November 24, 2008Updated: 3:21 pm EST November 26, 2008

A suspect in an FBI-led drug ring crackdown in the Pittsburgh area was in federal court downtown on Wednesday and will head to trial on drug charges.

Initially, Robert Korbe's appearance before the judge was postponed on Monday due to a conflict with his attorney. Korbe was offered a public defender but wanted time to find his own defense.

Korbe, whose arrest led to the shooting death of FBI Special Agent Samuel Hicks on Nov. 19, faces a federal charge of drug possession with intent to deliver. On Wednesday, a judge ruled Korbe to be detained pending his trial. A trial date has not yet been set.

He is one of over 30 suspects police, FBI and DEA personnel were investigating on possible drug charges in the area.

Christina Korbe, Robert Korbe’s wife, was charged with the shooting death of Hicks when police served the warrant for Korbe’s arrest at the couple's Woods Run Road home in Indiana Township.

Prior to his arrest, Korbe had been arrested and pleaded guilty to drug possession twice in the past 20 years.

He was also arrested for fighting with police officers in May 2007.
