Pit Bull Accused Of Attacks Survives Shooting By Neighbor

Shortly after a dog bit an Arlington Heights child on Sunday, a man shot the dog in public.

The neighbor, Ryan Sockwell, said the dog has attacked other people in the past, so he took action, so that he wouldn't be the next victim.

However, on Wednesday, authorities said the dog, Goliath, survived the gunshot wound.

Now, the dog's owner is waiting to see if animal control is going to take his dog away.

Emergency workers were called to the 2900 block of Devlin Street at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Witnesses said a young girl was walking down the street with a friend when she was attacked by the pit bull.

While medics were checking out the girl, the dog ran onto Sockwell's property, which is when he shot the dog.

Sockwell, who is licensed to carry a firearm, said that this is the fourth time he has seen the dog get out of its owner's yard and attack an innocent person.

"I wasn't going to be the next one. He bit my wife. He bit the mailman, and he bit the little girl today, and he's in my yard," said Sockwell.

The girl received minor injuries from the attack. Police did not file any charges against Sockwell or the dog owner.
