Ex-Scout Leader Accused Of Sexually Molesting 2 Boys

A Butler County physician is charged with molesting two teenage boys when he was a Boy Scout leader between 1989 and 1995.

Dr. David Evanko, 55, of Chicora, is free on bond after he was arraigned Tuesday night on charges including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and corruption of minors.

State police in Butler said Evanko molested the boys, who were 13 and 16 at the time, when he was leader of Scout Troop 10 in Butler. The victims are now 28 and 32.

"There are two victims that we know of at this time," said Trp. Ron Kesten of the Pennsylvania state police. "There may possibly be more."

The Boy Scouts of America revoked Evanko's membership after hearing the allegations against him.

The boys said Evanko gave them alcohol and watched pornographic movies besides the molestation. One of the victims told police the doctor performed one particular sexual activity on him "well over 100" times.

According to the criminal complaint, one of the victims said Evanko suggested he should physically experience sex and that the doctor was willing to provide him with the experience because he cared for him.

Evanko has a long-standing medical practice in Chicora.

His neighbors were shocked to hear the accusations.

"You know, he was always more than willing to provide a home to someone who didn't have a home," said neighbor Cassie Crispin.

Evanko was released from the Butler County Jail Tuesday night on bail.

State police said the investigation has just begun. They're expecting more victims to come forward.

A date for Evanko's preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
