PITTSBURGH -- Groups of taxpayers organized locally and nationally on Tax Day to send a message to Washington that they’ve been “Taxed Enough Already.”

Hundreds of Pittsburghers gathered in Market Square for a "TEA party" Wednesday afternooon to express their frustration with wasteful spending of their tax dollars by the government.

Tea bags were displayed prominently by participants, who carried signs with slogans such as "Repeal The Pork Or We'll Cook Your Bacon", "Revolution Is Brewing" and "Throw The Bums Out."

The protests were inspired by the Boston Tea Party, in which 18th century American colonists threw tea into Boston Harbor to demonstrate against taxes imposed by the British government.

Approximately 1,000 protestors also organized in Greene County to send a similar message to the president and Congress.

Across the borders, in West Virginia and Ohio, similar demonstrations were also held.

A tax protest in downtown Cincinnati ended with a petition delivered to City Hall, urging city officials to reject federal stimulus programs. Demonstrations were held in about two dozen other cities in Ohio.

Hundreds gathered in Charleston, W. Va., to express their frustration with the Obama administration and its spending plans.

Thorney Lieberman, one of the organizers, said he believes the day's demonstration will lead to further activism, calling the crowd representatives of a "silent majority."

Other demonstrations were planned statewide in Beckley, Charles Town, Martinsburg, Morgantown, Parkersburg and Wheeling.
