State Calls For Air Quality Tests Near Shippingport Plant

SHIPPINGPORT, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Health has recommended that an air quality study be conducted near a local energy company plant.First Energy’s Bruce Mansfield coal-fired plant in Shippingport has failed air quality standards for more than a decade, according to the department.People living nearby have complained for years that the plant’s pollution has caused illnesses, ranging from cancer to hair loss.An environmental group that’s suing First Energy said the testing is overdue.
