Suspicious Fire Burns Lawrence County Barn
Posted: 4:52 pm EDT April 26, 2009
Concerns were growing in a small Lawrence County community after a suspicious fire at a barn. The fire at the farm of Andy Hostetler in Little Beaver Township destroyed his barn and killed several animals, including a pony, a goat and two dogs.Ben Hostetler, the Enon Valley fire chief told Channel 11, "At 3 a.m., his daughter woke him up and told him the barn was on fire. It was just too hot to get in and get the animals out."Ten fire departments were called to the scene, and fought the fire for eight hours.Hostetler said there have been other suspicious fires in the area in the last 10 days, including several cars set on fire and a blaze in a storage area of the township building. The fire chief said it's possible the same person set all the fires including the one at the barn.Neighbor Bill Gardner is leading an effort to help the farmer, who is Amish. He said other Amish farmers in the area also are likely to help:"He still needs money to rebuild the barn and also for feed and hay. Any donations would be appreciated," said Gardner. If you can help, donations can be sent to:
