How To Get $200 Worth Of Groceries for Just $20

Coupon Queen Reveals Secrets

Susan Sampter has made cutting deals out of the paper her mission for decades.

The New York native came to a Shop'n Save in Lawrenceville to prove there is no magic trick, you can get the deals anywhere.

The first key step, according to Sampter, is organizing your list in the same categories as the store flyers.

"The flyer is always divided in categories so you have dairy goods and frozen foods and that's why I make out my list exactly the same way," said Sampter.

Sampter says don't let the bulk deals fool you, they do break apart.

"Sometimes people get confused and think they have to buy 10, but I'm only going to buy four and it's going to be the same price -- 50 cents," said Sampter.

As Sampter goes from aisle to aisle she shows us another trick -- don't ignore the center displays.

In this case, Sampter found Listerine both on the wall and in the center display. The island display featured a huge savings for the exact same product!

Another part of Sampter's secret is being flexible when it comes to brands.

"Brand loyalty may not be at the top of your list if you want to use coupons and save money," said Sampter.

And choosing a brand you've never seen can lead to an even bigger deal.

"Be alert for those new product introductions, they will give you the biggest savings of all."

Susan also recommends joining her coupon club.

They give away $25 worth of coupons to people who sign up. You can also request coupons you use the most.

But make sure you write down the specific size listed in your coupon.

Pick the wrong size and you could actually pay more.

Now it's time to check out.

Susan's grand total comes to $173.10.

But then the coupons start rolling in and the number drops....drastically

The final coupon savings manufacturers is $137.19.

After shopping for everything her family needs that week including meats, dairy, produce, snacks and lots of other supplies Sampter only pays $23.11.

"Thank you very much, I'm very happy with my savings!" said Sampter.
