Tree Trimmer Struck, Killed Along Rt. 422 In Armstrong Co.

Updated: 3:02 pm EDT May 1, 2009

A worker was killed and three other people injured in a chain-reaction crash along Route 422 in Armstrong County on Thursday.

Laurie Woodrow, 49, was clearing away brush with the rest of her tree-trimming crew in West Franklin Township when she was struck by a car and killed.

The 17-year construction veteran and Homer City native was feeding brush into a wood chipper when police said she was struck from behind by an oncoming vehicle.

Woodrow was pronounced dead at a Kittaning hospital.

Police said one driver, trying to make a left hand turn onto Mushroom Farm Drive, set off the deadly chain reaction crash.

State police still don't know for sure if speed or something else led to the accident, but they said the area of Route 422 is dangerous.

Family members said Woodrow died doing a job she loved.
