DEP Works To Clean Up Washington Co. Diesel Fuel Spill

Updated: 1:13 pm EDT May 6, 2009

A diesel fuel spill was contained Wednesday morning in Washington County, the state Department of Environmental Protection said.

The spill happened at about 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Pilot Truck Stop along Interstate 70 in Bentleyville.

DEP officials said about 2,500 gallons of fuel leaked from a fuel tanker when a shut-off valve malfunctioned.

Some of the fuel leaked into the parking lot and into Pigeon Creek.

The DEP said there was no threat to the drinking water.
