The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Bridgeville, Carnegie, Heidelberg and Scott Township Police Departments, kicked off a traffic safety checkpoint operation on Washington Pike (Route 50) Wednesday morning.

It is all a part of the Buckle Up PA seat belt campaign.

Police are checking motorists passing through the checkpoint through 2p.m. today.

Unbuckled motorists are receiving warnings and handouts detailing the state seat belt law.

The checkpoint operation coincides with the national Click It or Ticket mobilization, taking place from May 18 to June 7.
