$80,000 Grant Brings Evacuation Centers and Supplies to Region

Thanks to a fund from the United States Steel Foundation, 6 area community evacuation teams now have a clear plan, and equipment, to put into action should a major disaster strike.

The $80,000 grant to the Southewestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross provides each community team with newly-purchased evacuation equipment.

So far Indiana Township, Chartiers-Houston, Washington, Oakdale, The City of Pittsburgh Housing Authority and the Allegheny County Housing Authority have all recieved emergency trailers from the Red Cross.

Each trailer contains the equipment necessary to open an evacuation center for up to 100 people during an emergency.
