Burglar Enters Store Through Roof, Becomes Trapped

Police are investigating an unusual burglary attempt at a Game Stop store in East Liberty.

Investigators arrived at the scene at about 3 a.m. Tuesday to find a hole in the ceiling of the Penn Avenue store. They called in K-9 units and searched the rest of the shopping center, but they did not find a suspect.

Police said surveillance video shows a man cutting a hole in the roof in order to break in. They said he got inside but was unable to get out.

"You can look right up and see the hole where he fell through," said Venetta Regan, whose son works at the store.

Police said the man tried to exit the store through the front and back door before using a steel cabinet to climb back out through the roof. He was empty-handed, police said. Nothing was missing from the store.

Investigators are still trying to identify the burglar. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
