WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. -- Police in Washington County are looking for two men who they say are showing up at people's homes and demanding money in what they describe as a driveway scheme.Investigators say they have been spraying a black substance on driveways in Houston, North and South Strabane, Canonsburg, and Washington and then demanding that home owners pay them for the work. “They conned me. They wanted $6,000. They told me the price of everything went up,” homeowner Melvin Carl said.Carl said when he told the men he wasn't interested, they did the work anyway, and said they'd lower the price.“And the other guy in the truck called me and told me give me $600. And he and the other guy drove off,” Carl said. Two years ago a reputable company sprayed the driveway but also sealed cracks. The men this week did not.“I've been taken bad, yes,” Carl said.Police told Channel 11 it's a frequent scam these days. Residents should be wary of unsolicited driveway work.“Ask them to leave the property. If they don't leave the property, become aggressive, and call police,” said Detective Ken Torboli of the South Strabane police. The men were driving a white Dodge pickup truck. The truck also has a white bumper, police said.
