Pittsburgh-area Comcast employees, United Way volunteers and local elementary students boxed and shipped out presents for U.S. servicemen and servicewomen overseas on Wednesday.

More than 900 stockings filled with commonly requested items were boxed up at Comcast headquarters and sent to Wheeling, W.Va.

Before reaching Boatsie's Boxes in Wheeling, second- and third-grade students from Wylandville Elementary in Eighty-Four, Pa., Forest Grove Elementary in Coraopolis and Foster Elementary in the Mt. Lebanon School District, added a personal touch.

Students included a letter in each stocking they decorated as part of their special school projects. The stockings were packed with 10-12 items for each soldier supplied by Comcast and the United Way.

The stockings will arrive within a few weeks. The soldiers will be encouraged to write back to the students.

The project and unique form of communication is part of the annual "Comcast Cares Day."
