Pittsburgh police have made an arrest in the slaying of a pregnant teenager in the Central North Side.

Officers charged Lamon Street, 18, of Chartiers, with the deaths of 18-year-old Shavaughn Wallace and her unborn baby.

Wallace was found lying on the ground near on Alpine Street on May 22 after police said Street shot at the car she was sitting in.

According to the criminal complaint, she got caught in a dispute between two rival gangs.

Wallace was able to flee from the vehicle but collapsed a short distance away due to a gunshot wound to the back.

Detectives arrested Street at the Municipal Courts Building on First Avenue Wednesday after he appeared for a preliminary hearing on a pending court case.

Street's arrest has brought some relief to the victim's mother.

"I'm elated that they picked somebody up for this arrest," said Wallace's mother, Carla Robinson.

"Every day I've been crying. This is the first day I can cry with a little bit of relief," she said.

Robinson plans to start a scholarship in her daughter's memory.

Street has been charged with criminal homicide, criminal homicide of unborn, carrying a firearm without a license, and seven counts of recklessly endangering another person.
