Funeral Held For Firefighter Who Died While Battling Blaze

Funeral services were held Thursday for a Clarion County firefighter who apparently died of natural causes while battling a fire in burning debris at a recently demolished house.

Clarion County Coroner Terry Shaffer said toxicology results are still pending from the autopsy on Ryan Wingard, 28, but it appears he died naturally.

Funeral services were held at the Burns Funeral Home in Clarion, where family and friends said goodbye to the fallen firefighter.

Strattanville Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Bill Stroup said the firefighter complained of a headache before collapsing Monday morning.

Stroup said it was the company's first death in the line of duty in the department's 71 years.

State police are investigating the blaze.
