EAST HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- A Scottdale man has been charged with attempted homicide after, police said, he tried running down his mother's husband with his van.

Police said Harold Greenawalt, of East Huntingdon, was speeding along Webster Street toward his mother's house when he drove over a knoll in the roadway and went airborne in the van he was driving. Police said the vehicle came to a stop in a grassy area near the home.

Police said Greenawalt's mother's husband, Harry Holsopple, walked toward the van, which is when, police said, Greenawalt sped up and struck him, causing him to hang on the van.

At some point, police said, Greenawalt stopped the van, causing Holsopple to fall underneath it. When that happened, police said he got out and started to punch Holsopple in the face.

Police said Holsopple's wife and Greenawalt's mother, Donna Holsopple, tried to help her husband, which is when a neighbor also came to his aid.

Police said Greenawalt grabbed his mother by the head and attempted to throw her against the van.

Neighbor Jason Vanarsdale tackled Greenawalt, police said, but he was able to break loose. Police said he told Vanarsdale, "I'll kill you and your family. I know where you live."

At that time, Greenawalt's daughter, Kara, screamed at her father, who started toward her. His mother stepped in front of him, and Vanarsdale tackled him again.

After a short period of time, Greenawalt was able to break free. He got in his van and sped off. Police arrested him a short time later.

According to police, the incident stemmed from a physical altercation between Greenawalt and Harry Holsopple earlier in the day.
