2 men accused of blowing up mailboxes, setting home on fire in Shenango Twp.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Police in Shenango Township said two men were arrested in connection with blowing up several mailboxes and setting a home on fire.

According to investigators, Daniel McConahy, 19, and Joshua Klein, 18, both of New Castle, were arrested Friday morning.

Police records show the pair are facing several charges including causing or risking a catastrophe and criminal mischief.

"They figured out how to make bombs on the Internet, and they were practicing and using them," said Bill Phillips of Shenango Township police.

Investigators said the men either set fire to, or blew up multiple mailboxes in Shenango Township and also caused a house fire with flare guns in April.

Police said the men had been manufacturing and testing the explosive devices in a wooded area near Hollow Road.

The Allegheny County Bomb Squad has taken the explosive devices in to be analyzed.
