2 men rob Family Dollar employees at gunpoint in Carnegie

CARNEGIE, Pa. — Two men robbed employees at a Family Dollar store Wednesday in Carnegie, police said.

A surveillance camera captured the armed robbery on video, showing two men wearing dark clothing approaching an employee and tapping her on the shoulder.

Police said the pair demanded money and got away with $70 in less than a minute.

Authorities said one defining feature of the gunman’s clothing was a camouflage pattern on his hood, and he was wearing a white sock on the hand holding the gun.

"It's very bold what they're doing. We're going to do everything we can to catch them. But (the thieves) need to remember these are people that they're taking advantage of, sometimes for small amounts of money,” Carnegie Borough Police Department Sgt. Larry Gump said.

The robbery Wednesday was the third in less than a month in Carnegie’s business district, and police said business owners are shaken up.

"It does have people in the business district a little unsettled. They're scared. So we're doing as much as we can to try to try to patrol that area a little more and give them assurance that we're working and we're in the area,” Gump said.

No one was hurt during Wednesday’s robbery, but the men were able to escape and fled toward the business district.
