2 Struck By Gunfire At Rankin Apartment Complex

Police were called to Hawkins Village in Rankin Thursday morning for a report of two people shot.

A 26-year-old victim was shot in the back and a 15-year-old was shot in the leg, police said. Both were taken to Pittsburgh hospitals, where their conditions are unknown.

"Upon arrival, they found two people," said Chief Ryan Wooten of the Rankin Police Department.

Officials said at least 19 shots were fired from what appeared to be three different guns.

Bullets flew over a fence into the housing complex, and police said they believe the shooters were at a high elevation.

The victims were shot while sitting outside, police said. Police said one of the men was still recovering from being shot last year.

"Incidents happen here quite often," said Detective Kenneth Nichol of the Rankin Police Department. "Nothing to this extent happened recently, but it does happen."

Both victims are expected to make a full recovery.

"No suspects yet," said Nichol. "None at all. Nobody coming forward witnessed anything or anyone."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
