5 Killed In Michigan Car-Train Crash

No One On Train Injured

Five people were killed Thursday afternoon when an Amtrak train and a car collided in Canton Township.

The accident happened at 12:33 p.m., WDIV-TV in Detroit reported. Nearby Hannon and Lotz roads were closed.

Police said all five of the victims, all teens or young adults, were traveling in the car. Chopper images reveal that there are gates located at the intersection where the car and train crashed. However, it's unclear if the gates were raised at the time of the crash.

Amtrak Spokesman Devon Sayers said 170 passengers and crewmembers were onboard the Wolverine 353, which had just left the Dearborn train station and was heading west for Chicago.

Nobody on the train was injured.

Passengers were to be bussed to Ann Arbor, which is the train's next stop, to continue their travels, said Sayers.
