Vacant Millvale House Torn Down After Blaze

A fire at a vacant house forced evacuations Friday morning in Millvale.

Dispatch workers said the fire started at about 4:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Siegel Street.

Firefighters evacuated nearby homes.

"This house has been abandoned for quite a while," said neighbor Julie Landefold. "So, our thoughts are always, 'Something's going to happen here.' There's a house next door that's abandoned."

Neighbors told Channel 11 News they went door-to-door to wake up other nearby residents.

Some people doused their homes with water to try to prevent the fire from spreading, neighbors said.

"Our neighbor said the house was on fire, so we got the hose and began hosing the house down," said Landefold.

Firefighters said the roof began to collapse as they were fighting the blaze.

Once the flames were out, firefighters said a wall was leaning on electrical wires, so crews helped collapse it inward before tearing the rest of the building down.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire marshal.
