Homeless Man Accused Of Setting Millvale Fire Will Stand Trial

A homeless man accused of setting fire to a Millvale home over the weekend will stand trial.

Frederick Geyer, 24, was charged on Sunday in an arson that happened Saturday at a duplex along Siegel Street. He is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

According to the Allegheny County fire marshal, Geyer found a broken window, then held a cigarette lighter to a curtain inside.

Geyer's story to police was that another man, Frank Greegus, asked him to start the fire. In exchange, Geyer told police Greegus was going to let him use his truck.

According to the police report, Geyer confessed to the crime, which came less than 24 hours after another abandoned home had been set ablaze along the same street.

Fire investigators said they saw someone acting nervous and followed that person. They said they then saw that man meet up with another man, who was later identified as the suspect.

"There are too many abandoned houses up here. I got one on each side, which really makes me worried," said resident George Mullins.

Geyer has not been charged in relation to the second fire.

Geyer faces several charges, including arson, conspiracy and risking catastrophe. He is jailed on $100,000 bond.
