MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. -- Despite the opposition of many parents, Sto-Rox school board members voted Thursday to close the Foster Kindergarten Center.

Students in the kindergarten will now go to Sto-Rox Elementary School.

Fifth-grade students will move to the middle school.

The district believes this would help cut costs.

It's already had to furlough 10 teachers.

"I don't think that fifth-graders should be riding the bus with eighth-graders and kindergartners should be riding the bus with fourth-graders. There's such a maturity wise difference," said parent Cheri Zelinski.

About 250 parents signed a petition opposing to the school closing.

In other school business, Sto-Rox rescinded its dress code.
