Sick Animals Rescued From Filthy Butler Farmhouse

Dozens of abandoned animals were taken as Humane Society officials raided a farm in Butler County on Monday.

The raid happened in Boyers, Pa., where authorities found more than 40 sick cats, donkeys, horses, dogs and goats.

The animals were found living in caged areas inside and outside the farmhouse along Venango Road, authorities said.

Humane Society agent Penny Woerhrel said the animals had been living in filth with no food or water for months.

“These are poor conditions. This whole place should be burned down, in my opinion,” said Woerhrel. "Completely emaciated animals. The cats were sick and dying. Their eyes were so goopy they were closed shut. No food anywhere, garbage everywhere."

Volunteers with All American Ponies, Inc. rescued the animals after the owner’s relatives called to complain about the conditions at the farm.

Humane officers also discovered five decomposing cat carcasses and dozens of malnourished animals.

According to one source, the owner, whose name has not been released, abandoned the animals after a recent separation which left her in financial straits.

The owner has voluntarily turned the animals over to the care of humane officers and is not facing any charges.

Several of the animals have already been adopted. Nearly 30 cats and kittens will be taken to area shelters.
