PITTSBURGH -- With the final phase of the Fort Pitt bridge and tunnel project just around the corner, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportaion is offering some last minute advice for commuters.
The outbound bridge and tunnel will close March 22. Thursday, PennDOT's own "Coneman" had this message for drivers who want to avoid the inevitable backups:
"The best way to avoid traffic, I've found, is to avoid traffic. Stay downtown after work -- don't go home quite so fast. Have dinner, shop, have some fun, let traffic die down."
On March 29, the inbound bridge and tunnel will close. They will be used for outbound traffic while the project is under way.
