CLAIRTON, Pa. -- Animal Friends is offering a $500 reward for information in the case of a beloved family pet that was shot in Clairton.

Family members told Channel 11's Kimberly Easton that they were giving their mixed breed dog, Cash, a bath when his collar slipped off, and he ran off into the woods.

The family had a micro-chip surgically implanted in Cash in case of such an emergency, and they eagerly waited the call, saying their pet had been found.

Animal Friends did call the family and report that Cash had been found. However, they said Cash was found bloody in the woods and had been shot.

Good Samaritan Ron DeFlavis was the one who found him.

Steven Edwards, Cash's owner's nephew, lives at the family’s Clairton home and is shocked about the shooting. "Who would shoot Cash? He's so friendly," he said.

Officials said the dog was shot in the shot, one of the bullets shattering his jaw.

However, Animal Friends expects the dog to make a full recovery.
