Washington Co. Firefighters Injured When Ladder Collapses

Two firefighters were hurt early Sunday morning after a ladder they were climbing collapsed in Washington County.

Emergency officials said the injuries are not life-threatening.

The accident happened Sunday morning at a fire and explosion scene in Monongahela, just outside Pittsburgh.

Two firefighters from the New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department were on a 100-foot ladder when it collapsed and they fell.

Investigators said the fire started at about 5:15 a.m. at Vocelli's Pizza and then spread to two adjacent buildings, which housed Hufnagel Computers and the Bee's Nest Café.

Witnesses told Channel 11 News that they saw the windows of the cafe blow out after hearing the initial explosion.

At least seven fire departments were dispatched to the 200 block of West Main Street to battle the flames.

Officials said everyone got out of the buildings safely.

The blaze was under control by about 9 a.m.
