Authorities have charged a man accused of forcing a woman to drive him around at knifepoint in Indiana County early Wednesday morning.

State Troopers said Andre Lamont Hardy, 37, of Pittsburgh, threatened Amber Luzier at knifepoint as he forced her to drive him to Pittsburgh from Cherrytree, Pa.

Police said Hardy threatened to stab Luzier several times during the drive. When they stopped for gas at a Sheetz in Clymer Borough, police said Luzier ran into the store. That's when Hardy jumped into the driver's seat of another car and fled on Route 286, police said.

After stealing the car, police said Hardy lost control, hit an embankment and flipped the vehicle several times. He was ejected from the car during the crash, police said.

Hardy was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, where his condition is not known.

Police charged him with theft of a motor vehicle and unlawful restraint, among other charges.
