Controversial Cartoon Draws Attention At Slippery Rock University

A group of Slippery Rock students drew attention to a controversial cartoon that was published in a campus newspaper.

The image was published in the Slippery Rock Rocket, a newspaper put out by a student group.

The cartoon causing commotion shows an African-American in a noose.

“It’s on the line of being racist,” said student Andrew Schommer. “Poses an interesting point. It makes us think a little bit.”

The cartoonist responsible of the controversial drawing, who is an African-American, said “This is an exaggerated, satirical version of what we often see and hear in mainstream media: the victim gets accused of pulling the race card, which is an easy way to dismiss the real issues involved.”

Members of the newspaper have not issued an official comment.
